AquaSur is the most important event in the southern hemisphere's aquaculture industry, held every two years in Puerto Montt, the heart of Chile's aquaculture industry. Chilean aquaculture export data 2008-2014 (in millions of USD) has seen an 82% increase in Chile's aquaculture exports over the past seven years, making it the world's second-largest producer of salmon. Since the 1980s, Chile's aquaculture production has grown by an average of over 25% each year, and in the past decade, it has averaged over 13% growth per year.
According to a report by authoritative industry body FiS on December 5, 2015, Chile exported 439,921 tons of salmon in the first 10 months of this year, valued at US2.829billion.Thisrepresentsa13.52.418 billion.
